Position Overview

The Chief Engineer is responsible for managing and overseeing the repair, maintenance, and operational readiness of all company-owned and rented equipment. This includes tracking equipment inventory, maintaining critical spare parts, and ensuring all machinery operates efficiently and safely. This role reports directly to the Vessel Manager and coordinates with project management to support operational needs and company interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Equipment Management:
    • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all equipment and its location.
    • Oversee and manage the repair and maintenance program for all equipment.
    • Ensure all equipment is in good operating condition and that repairs are completed promptly.
  • Operations Oversight:
    • Track and maintain records of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports, inspections, and repairs.
    • Requisition and manage spare parts, supplies, fuel, lube, and water.
    • Monitor mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components on dredges and support equipment.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Enforce safety rules and regulations related to equipment operation and maintenance.
    • Initiate corrective and preventative actions to achieve operational goals.
    • Participate in safety and environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with State/Federal regulations and improve company programs.
  • General Duties:
    • Provide mentorship and supervision to staff and crew members.
    • Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications & Skills

Required:
  • Proven experience in equipment management and maintenance supervision.
  • Strong expertise in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance skills.
  • Strong analytical and mentoring abilities.
  • Ability to comply with safety regulations and work effectively in team environments.
  • Flexibility to work at remote project locations for extended periods.
  • Must be reliable, motivated, and eligible to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
  • Familiarity with operating marine equipment, tools, and devices.
Preferred:
  • Strong stress management, teamwork, and results-driven competencies.
